The incident occurred around 8 p.m. near the intersection of Elm St. SW and S. Division Ave. SW.
About a half-dozen police cars were on scene. Police closed both Rawlings St. SW and Herbert St. SW to the intersection of Division Ave. SW for the duration of the standoff.
The decision to delay today’s hearing for murder suspect Sanqua Cummings, 16, was mutually agreed upon by the Kent County Prosecutor and Public Defender’s offices.
Cummings faces counts of open murder and using a firearm to commit a felony, stemming from Saturday’s shooting in the driveway of a Southeast Side home where people had gathered for a birthday party.
